The first area of focus is Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity. I want to focus on this because I believe with the drive that the states are putting on to get the students to perform better as teachers we are losing the ability to inspire creativity and learning.
The form of action that I would take is to strive for at least one lesson a week that would allow students to explore into a subject matter and collaborate about amongst their peers. When students engage in the learning process on their own and reflect what they have found with their peers it is more effective than any lecture.
To monitor the progress I would mark a calender of the dates where I tried these types of lesson with the students. A short reflection would given of how well it went and what to change.
To evaluate how well it is going I would use several tools. One would be a survey given to the students one how well they liked the activity and how beneficial they thought it was as a whole. At the end of the lesson there would be a short assessment such as a quiz or exit slip so I could make a correlation of what they actually learned to how well they felt they learned.
I would like to focus more on the second standard of Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. I feel that this is an area of continuous growth. Everyday there are new technologies that are being developed that will be beneficial to the learning experience. My main goal for this standard is trying to keep up with these technologies.
To help achieve this goal I would like to join learning communities that are centered on the use of new technologies. This ranges from being a member of blogs on the World Wide Web to being a member of my technology committee at my school and board of education if possible.
To help monitor the information gathered I would have a journal in which I would save links or other materials that pertain to the new technology. With each of the technologies I would write a short how to on how it works and what it does. This way when developing lessons it is easier for me to reference the materials needed to develop my lesson plans.
I really like the fact that you will give a survey to the students as an evaluation. It's like what the professors get from the college students at the end of a course. The one or two questions I would make sure I ask the students are, "What would you like to see added or changed in the activity?"

Jonas,
ReplyDeleteI believe that the hardest part of your GAME plan is keeping up with the constant flow of technology development. Have you joined any tech education societies or groups? I am looking to join a couple to keep me abreast of things. Any suggestions?
Jonas,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you stated that when students work collaboratively it can be more effective than any lecture. I could not agree more. It is so important that students are still given the chance to be creative and share their ideas with one another.
I would love to hear some of the activities you use to help keep the students motivated and creative at the same time. I think giving them that at least once a month is very manageable and a great plan! I also like the fact that you would give them a chance to offer feedback, because after all, they are the ones that need to enjoy the activity and learn!
Hi Jonas,
ReplyDeleteHere are two links to blogs that share educational tech innovations and tools; the sites discuss which ones work and which don't as well as providing valuable pointers. I tried to post this earlier today but for some reason it did not get saved (?).
